Last weekend, we traveled to Memphis for a quick visit with Greg's grandma. We left after naptime on Friday, and had an uneventful trip until 1 mile before our exit. Abby has gotten into this really unfortunate habit of getting carsick. Luckily, I knew from her body language & whining what was about to happen and I caught most of it in my hands/prevented it from getting all over the car & carseat. Poor Abby was very upset she made a mess, and had to be changed (into spare clothes that were WAY too small!) in the cold.
In a weird way, we were glad Abby was just carsick instead of getting something worse, like a stomach bug or something. In fact, 2 minutes after throwing up, Abby asked me for a quesadilla for dinner. So I knew we were golden :) We had a very late & yummy dinner at On The Border, and then the kids got to bed around 10 pm. We left the books in the car, and were too lazy to retrieve them, so we pulled out the standard Bible-in-the-hotel-drawer. The kids loved it! And of course Greg thought it was hilarious and snapped this picture of us.
Abby & I shared a bed that night, which made her MONTH, but let me tell you....she is soooo the worst sleeping partner! It felt like she was doing snow-angels all night and kicking me in the back. Not to mention have a coughing fit on & off for 2 hrs and then also waking up multiple times due to the thunderstorm. Needless to say, it was not a great night of sleep. But somehow Abby still said it was "so much fun" to have a sleepover with Mommy, ha!
After breakfast (& introducing the kids to Fruit Loops), we headed to Grandma Givens' nursing home to visit her. We surprised her coming out of Bible Study, which looking back was not the greatest decision. She is 91, after all! :) To say she was happy to see us was an understatement, and the kids were so good to her. Chatted a lot about school and took turns sitting & playing in her motorized chair.
Greg's parents joined us in time for lunch in Grandma's private dining room. The staff treated us like kings & queens and I swear we had a 6 course lunch! It was all delicious, but the kids were winding down and needed to head back to Aunt Molly's house for a rest. But not before Grandma got a few more hugs out of this girl!
Please notice this little pink Beanie Baby bear in every picture. Grandma gave it to Abby, who promptly named it "Pinky," and has barely left her side since.
Greg & Stan stayed another hour or two visiting with Grandma, and then Greg returned in early evening for another little chat. We had another late/long trip home, and made it back Saturday around 10 pm. It was a great visit, but obviously way too short. We love you, Grandma Givens!!
Love you baby Jesus!!! Ps- does dad still have the 500+ beanie babies in the garage? The starter jacket is still there :)
ReplyDeleteShew... poor Abby.. I feel her pain! And the Bible from the hotel drawer.. CLASSIC, I love it! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for making the trip !
ReplyDeleteMaybe we should check Amazon for "carsick buckets." Much better than the mop bucket Mom used with us.
