Easter 2017

The kids were anxious to wake up on Easter morning and hunt for their baskets!! The Easter Bunny thought she did a really good job hiding them this year, but not so much. Abby found hers within 2 minutes and Nate wasn't far behind!

They racked up!

Abby's fave thing in her basket - a sleep mask! #diva
We had a lazy morning with a big breakfast, and then headed to 11:00 mass. Not without a few pictures beforehand though!

That afternoon, we had our 3rd annual egg hunt at the neighborhood park. There wasn't a huge turnout this year, but the kids didn't mind because it meant more candy for them! And at least the Easter Bunny came! (No, it wasn't Greg that dressed up this year. Another neighborhood dad drew the short straw :)
Evers & Nate loved the poop emoji eggs I hid!! :)

A Big Day for Nate!

Back in June 2016, Nate got spacers put in between a few of his top teeth. This was step one in a 3 step process to make room in his very small & overcrowded mouth. Next, in August, came the metal appliance. Then, in November, he got braces up top.

So, for 10 LONG months Nate couldn't chew gum or eat popcorn & gummy-type candies. (Basically a kids' worst nightmare. Ha!) But finally on Wednesday he got his braces off. Can you tell he was excited?!?!?
 Last picture with braces!
Nate has been a trooper through all of this and hardly complained at all about the pain & discomfort. He dutifully took his "tooth kit" to school every day and has been cleaning & flossing his teeth so well. The orthodontist called him a dream patient :) He got rewarded with these goodies from Dr. Cowan after the braces came off:
So excited for his gum & popcorn!
Now, the story does not end here because we still have a long road ahead of us to get his mouth in tip-top shape! He currently has a permanent retainer attached to the back of his top 4 teeth, and he has to wear a second retainer (that covers all of his top teeth) at night. He will definitely have to have braces again in the future, and it will be a whole set this time. We are hopeful that won't happen for another 2-3 years though, to give Nate a little break :)

Before & After
When we got home, I had a bucket of goodies waiting for him....all the foods he's been wanting to eat but couldn't. He was so surprised!!
I let him try a little bit of everything....Swedish Fish, gum, skittles, mike & ikes, and yes - SLIM JIMS. He loves those things (gross, I know!) and was so happy to eat one again!!!
So proud of my big boy and happy to see that handsome smile again :)

Shark Tooth Creek

On Friday, Abby's class had a field trip to Shark Tooth Creek!

Abby has been hearing about this place for 2 years now, ever since Nate & I went. Needless to say, she was excited! Not to mention that she got to ride in her friend's "bus!" (They have a large family, and recently bought a 16 seat passenger van. It is awesome! We put all the girls from Abby's class plus their moms in there for the hour ride to Aliceville. So fun!)
Silly girls

Riding the Shark Tooth Creek Express - beware, Mr. Ken is a crazy driver!!

Miss Priss found her first shark tooth!

The water was VERY chilly, but she didn't care! She had fun hunting for shark teeth & other treasures.

My girl.

Buds Mia & Jonesy

Blondies!

Both 1st grade classes - quite a group!
After our time was over at the creek, each child was asked to sort through the teeth they found and only keep 10 of the best ones. (And the rest we gave back.) Abby had a hard time deciding!!

The tooth that got her in the "X" club
We really lucked out with the weather....although it was a little chilly & windy, the sun was out the entire time and we got to have a great picnic lunch and some free time. Then, we boarded the Shark Tooth Creek Express one last time to head up the hill to Play World at Mr. Ken's house.

1st grade buddies: Jonesy, Cate, Mia, Indya, Abby & Erin

Just relaxing at Play World

She loved the zipline!!

Taking a breather

On our last stop, Mr. Ken took us to the "top of the world." What a view!

Mr. Ken and all the wild kiddos

We got to walk down the hill to our cars, so of course Abby took that opportunity to pick flowers!

Great minds....

Happy girls headed home after a long & fun field trip!!
