Abby & Nate's school held their "Spirit Run" yesterday, which serves as their annual fundraiser. (Nate had Field Day as well, but I will cover that in a separate post. I took waaaay too many pictures yesterday)!
I love this fundraiser for so many reasons, but mainly because 1) I only have to ask family to donate money once a year (!) and 2) Instead of selling something, the kids get to be exercising and having fun as a way to help raise money for their school. Win-win!
Abby was not super thrilled to wear her Spirit Run shirt, mostly b/c she thought it "looked like a Daddy shirt" (I guess b/c it was so big!?) and also b/c it didn't have any pink on it. We compromised and picked out her neon pink sneakers.

Abby's class ran first, at 8:15 am. Greg came to cheer on Abby as well, and she was thrilled to give Daddy a high five every time she did a lap!

Then.....after about 10 laps (these are TINY laps, people!), she wanted a water break. Sure, no problem. Well, there was a problem b/c after that she did not want to keep running. (And people had pledged money for her to run up to 35 laps, so she had to get back out there!)
It took a lot of cajoling, but after about 10 minutes, I managed to convince her to get back out there. Only catch: she wanted to me to run with her. So, I did about 3 laps with her and that seemed to do the trick. (Later, another mom tells me that she took video of me running with Abby b/c it was just "so sweet," and that she would tag me in it on Facebook. I begged her not to, since I wasn't wearing a sports bra, ha!)
One thing that cheered Abby up was grabbing hands with one of her besties, Indya, and finishing the race with her. This was the cutest thing!! Click here to watch Abby running with Indya.

All in all, Abby did a great job (minus the 10 minute tantrum in the middle). She ran all of her 35 laps and then asked if she could "go home to change her clothes." I told you, she was not digging that shirt! Greg & I had to leave to go help out with Nate's class, so thank goodness her class was able to jump on a few bouncy houses after the race. She didn't even notice we had left.
However, when I came back out to my car at 11 am to get my lunch/cooler, whose class was having an impromptu picnic lunch right by the parking lot and playground!? Oh yes, Abby's. So, since she had spotted me, I sat an ate with her for a few minutes. When I had to leave to get back to Nate's class, she insisted on taking a selfie. Why, of course! :)
Very proud of our sweet baby girl, completing her first Spirit Run!! (She may be the runner in the family, after all! :)
Awww!! The video with you cheering and Abby running is super cute! And a ten-minute tantrum in the middle sounds a lot like Olivia! The picture of the three besties is adorable! Abby's sunglasses crack me up!
ReplyDeleteWhat a hoot, she wants to change her clothes as soon as she finishes the race! She such a character!
