A JOYous Wedding

Greg & I took a trip to Charleston (kids-free!) last week, for one of my college roommates' weddings.  (Nat, that blog title is for you, my friend. Such a cornball.)

We flew in Wednesday evening and another former roommate, Klug, graciously offered up her house for the night. Even though she'd just had kid #3 three weeks prior! Yes this woman is Super Mom to the max. I can't even explain how amazing she is. And please look at her beautiful kids! They are so charming & smart & fun to be around.

Hadley, 5 years old
Burns, 3 years old
Emilia, 3 weeks old
Later that night, another former roommate Natalie flew in from CA, and we all stayed up till 2 am reminiscing on our college days. Yes, even Klug who is beyond sleep-deprived and nursing every 3 hours. I told you she was Super Mom!

Thursday, we had the privilege of having a lazy morning!! We headed off for a stress-free day and late breakfast, and this happened:

Luckily, the policeman had mercy on us out-of-towners, and let us off with just a warning. The funniest part about this was when I called to tell Klug what happened, her first comment was "But I thought Greg always drove super slow!" Ha! He does. He is such a turtle.

Despite the speeding ticket scare, we had a great breakfast with Nat, and then a leisurely stroll in Folly Beach to see the Morris Island lighthouse.

And what lazy afternoon would be complete without a beer on the pier!?

Later on Thursday, we checked into our hotel and then got pretty for the rehearsal dinner at the Old Village Post House. Amazing food, amazing venue. And I must say, Dixie gave a pretty amazing speech too!! (Sidenote: My senior year in college, the five of us - me, Joy, Klug, Natalie, and Becca - lived on Dixie Lane. So we called ourselves the Dixie Chicks! Corny, yes but 11 years later the 4 of them are still some of my truest friends.)

I didn't have my camera with me Thursday night, but let's just say I hardly remember it :) We had an amazing time at the rehearsal dinner, and then closed down (!) a fun bar at 1 am afterwards. It was a great night and so fun to feel like just "Em & Greg" again. All of Dixie knew Greg from college - remember we've been together for 14 years - so I loved the fact that they were just as happy to see him as they were me.

Friday morning, Dixie attempted to get in a little time with the bride before her wedding festivities started. So, we met at the Cooper River Bridge at 8 am for a walk. Ugh. Nat & I were feeling ROUGH but the walk helped and as usual, it was so nice to catch up with everyone. I love my Dixie. We always pick up where we left off. Giving advice, making fun ourselves, laughing, and just being real.

Then, Friday evening, Joy & Wes had a beautiful ceremony on the beach in Mt. Pleasant. I have never seen Joy look so gorgeous!!

The reception took place on a golf course. So beautiful!

Greg was so good with Baby Emilia
Joy & Wes had quite the first dance....it started out very prim & proper and then quickly evolved into the Dirty Dancing song "I've Had the Time of My Life!" Major props to them b/c I'm sure that took forever to prepare for.

DIXIE!
After the reception, the party moved to a nearby bar. Professor Greg was in rare form. The man deserves to celebrate; he's had two publications recently and has worked his tail off! :)

However, Grandma here hit a wall around 10 pm and had to take a cab back to the hotel. My feet were killing me (damn heels) and as I told my friends, I was "fun for 2 nights. 3 is just asking too much!" :)

We had to skip the brunch Saturday morning and fly home. I was sad to leave my friends but happy to kiss my kiddos again! What a great little mini-vacation, to celebrate a wonderful couple, and spend more time with Greg & college roommates. Win Win!
