Character Matters, Too

*Bear with me, I have a LOT of posts to catch up on. This has been a busy last week of school!!*

Last Friday, Nate's class (& the other 1st grade class) performed a play called "Character Matters, Too." Each child got assigned a fairy tale or nursery rhyme character....think: Rapunzel, Hansel & Gretel, Little Red Riding Hood, etc. Nate was picked to be Humpty Dumpty AND one of the 3 leads ("the councilmen")! He was so excited and they have been practicing hard for the past 2 months.

(Sidenote: Whereas I'm super proud of Nate for getting picked to be one of the leads - I'm sure it's because he's such a good reader - I was not too thrilled with the prospect of having to make a Humpty Dumpty costume!! However, I think it turned out pretty good, and I donated it to the class to use for next year....)

All the kids did SUCH a great job! Besides the 3 councilmen, everyone had to memorize their lines. And I think they sang a total of 10 songs. Nate said he had fun, but was also glad it was over :) I don't blame him; I would never have been able to read all those lines in front of an audience in 1st grade! I'm amazed at his bravery and confidence everyday.
His biggest fan

His buddies: The Pied Piper (JJ) and Dwarf #1 (Mason)

There goes Humpty Dumpty!!
After the play, the teachers surprised everyone with trophies & a pizza party, complete with drinks, chips, and a cookie cake!
The group forgot to say a blessing before the meal, but Nate yelled at Abby "Say a prayer!" So she did :)

Best day ever!

  1. Nate was awesome but I'm sure he was tired of practicing. The picture of him almost falling off the wall is so cute. Abby praying is a keeper if you could edit out the food around her.
