Abby's Half Birthday

Abby Reece, you are 5 ½ today!

I’ve said it once, and I’ll say it a million times more. I can hardly remember what life was like before you….

….I adore your sass, your smile, your laugh, your outfits, your songs, your heart….

You are extraordinarily unique, and I love that you are mine.

As has become the new tradition in our house, we celebrated your half birthday with mini-cupcakes, a half party hat, and a half birthday song tonight. It's oh so silly, and you & Nate giggle each time we do it. Which is why we do it :)

You are such a ball of energy and into SO many things these days….

-You have finally become an avid bike rider like your brother, and most evenings you are burning up the street in front of our house. You love riding bikes with the neighbors, and are so proud to be able to keep up with all the “big kids.”

-You (& your brother) are full-on obsessed with trading Pokemon cards with the neighbors! We’ve spent many hours sorting them, organizing them by type, and creating binders with cover sheets.

-Now that’s it’s starting to feel like summer outside, you love to be in your bathing suit and do the water blasters, sprinkler, and water guns at all times. I have a feeling we will be at the pool a LOT this summer.

-You continue to spend a lot of time in the craft room....drawing pictures, painting, creating necklaces, and making perler beads creations. Of course, none of this is done quietly! You are always always always singing while you are crafting/creating. It is definitely your “happy place.”

-You are quite the social butterfly (you must take after your Aunt Bebe!), and make friends wherever you go. Recently at school, you were caught in a weird situation, where one of your friends was being mean to another girl because she was jealous of your friendship with her! Crazy. Three of your besties at school have had birthday parties in the last 2 weekends, and you happily attended.

-You love your Wednesday night “girls’ nights” with me (while Greg takes Nate to karate). We usually paint your nails, watch part of “Annie” or “Frozen,”  and color a mosaic.

-You continue to amaze everyone with the brilliantly bold & colorful outfits you piece together :) (The brighter, the better in your mind!) However, since you are growing.like.a.weed and your legs are 7 miles long, we are starting to run into problems when it comes to your shorts. And skirts. And dresses. Namely, I think they are too short and you do not. So, that’s a fun battle we get to have together every day.

-You are still your brother’s biggest fan, and love having him teach you his karate moves. Check out this video, where you added a little extra flair at the end. Perfect example of why I love you so much!

-And perhaps the biggest news of all these days is that you are READING!! Daddy has been working with you since February, and according to him, you have made giant strides since then! Typical of your personality….you are not very impressed with your reading abilities, and always say it’s “not a big deal.” I disagree though! Click here to hear Abby read (half of) the "Foot Book."
Although you guys love celebrating half birthdays because it's silly & you get a small cupcake, I really do enjoy it because it gives me time to reflect on the little person you're becoming and how amazing you are!

I love you Abby Reece and can't believe you're halfway to SIX!!!! :)
