Star Student #2

As mentioned previously, Nate was also the Star Student this week! Each afternoon (in additional to regular homework), he had a project to work on. Lucky us! :)

Monday

He got to pick 3 toys or books to bring into school & share with his class. He chose a remote control Lightning McQueen car, a Lego creation of a house/carport/car, and his magic set.

Tuesday

He worked tirelessly on this poster, and insisted on coloring every inch of it himself, and writing ALL of his answers too! I was very proud of him. I think it took him close to 2 hours to complete it.

Wednesday

He had to turn a huge 12x12x18 box into "something creative." Other Star Students before him had done robots, rocket ships, airplanes, etc so I knew this was no easy task. Nate's idea was to do a Jeep, and once we enlisted Daddy the design really took off. Greg used old training wheels off of 2 bikes, and cut the box into the shape we needed. Then I spray-painted it while Nate was at school, and Wednesday afternoon, Nate helped me with all the "finishing touches:" the license plate, the spare tire, the windshield, the mirrors, the steering wheels, the headlights, and all the lettering. It was quite a task but we had fun working on it together. (Oh, how I love a craft project!) I think the whole family was quite proud of the finished product:

Thursday

 All week, Nate had been taking care of "Fluffy," the class pet owl. We were supposed to take pictures of Fluffy's adventures, and then paste them in the class journal & record everything we'd done together.

Friday

Greg (!) ate lunch with Nate in the cafeteria. This was a big treat, because according to Nate: "Daddies don't come a lot!" :) Greg told me that Nate was soooo excited he was there, and a few times was even trying to climb in his LAP to sit!! Nate introduced his Daddy to all of his friends around them, and then they even got special treats of popsicles since it was Spirit Day.

What an exciting week for (our second) Star Student! We are so proud of Nate and how well he is adjusting to kindergarten. He has made a few new friends, loves being in the "big school," and seems to be above the curve with his reading & writing skills. Again, it seems as though we've found the perfect fit for Nate, and for that we are so grateful!
